Inaccurate and misleading User Manual: Two issues here:Ĭharging customers again for a previously purchased Blue Ray add-on: This is not acceptable when the User Manual clearly states on page 254: “You can restore purchases that you have made through Pinnacle Studio”, and the running software also indicates that this can be done. Which is not really true, as when PS23 is installed on Win 7 or 8, it is not compatible with the audio on the most widely used consumer HD camcorder file format (AVCHD)!! This is a vital restriction and should have been clearly stated under ‘Operating System’ and not as an obscure hidden footnote under ‘Export Formats’. It was only recently that I found that this problem was more likely to be due to misleading System Requirements: Where, under ‘Operating System’, it states that PS23 is compatible with Win 7, 8 and 10. Please note that this completely prevented me from doing any sort PS23 evaluation inside any ‘Trial’ period (which as a long term customer, is something that I shouldn’t need anyway!). Misleading System Requirements: From the start I had a major issue using it on my Win 7 computer: No sound and, as I was unable to fix this after two days (and thought this was due to an incompatibility with my sound card), I thought it best to wait until my new Win 10 computer arrived mid-December.

Everything seemed OK, but unfortunately, the reality was somewhat different:

But before purchasing new software, I always check the spec, promotional info and, in particular, download and study the User Manual, to ensure the software will meet my needs. So when I received a special offer for version 23 last November, I decided it was time to upgrade, particularly as I was about to purchase a new editing computer to replace my 2011 Win 7 computer. There were no problems with the install. My last Pinnacle Studio purchase was version 20 in 2016 and I use it for editing AVCHD files to produce Blue Ray and DVD discs with DD 5.1 audio. At the moment I am taking advantage of some slack time away from home to check things out on a Dell laptop - nothing special and very slow wifi, but it works - and i'm not expecting blazing performance, only the ability to get familiar with how the system works.

So, I am trying the forum.įor the record, I normally do my video work on a PC desktop with a 3.3 i5 processor and 16 gigs, and an upmarket graphics card whose specs I don't recall offhand.

I discovered that there is no support offered for the free version, except from the forum.

Since I did not did not expect to be contacted as a result of submitting the report, and since there were no clues about what the problem might be I suspected that looking for email help from the forum might be difficult, so I decided to try the phone option suggested on the support page. (And I uninstalled 17, rebooted, and tried again with the same result) I made use of the option to submit a report. However, when I attempted to load the program, it crashed with a message that Davinci Resolve had quit unexpectedly. So, I downloaded and installed Davinci Resolve 17.

Which is described on the web site as offering virtually everything that exists in the studio version. In view of my experience with Pinnacle Studio, however, I want to try the product and its support before finally committing so I wanted to start with the free version. Covid-19 killed most of my business but now that it is starting to revive I decided to seriously investigate Davinci. Over the years I have been urged to try Davinci Resolve and have looked at versions 14, 15 and 16 but not gone very far with any of them because of fear of the learning curve against the need to produce product. I have been a Pinnacle Studio user for around 15 years from version 7 up to version 22 and have been increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of the product and its support.
